About Me

Saxophonist and woodwind doubler David Stevens enjoys performing a variety of styles, including jazz, improvisation, contemporary classical, musical theatre, and pop/rock. As a concert saxophonist, David performs as a soloist in alternate venues, with the Jamaica Plain Saxophone Quartet, and as a chamber and orchestral musician. He has appeared with groups such as International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), ALEA III, Hub New Music, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Navy Band East, Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra, and the Masterworks Festival Orchestra. As a contemporary saxophonist, he has collaborated with composers including Gunther Schuller, Pauline Oliveros, Robert Honstein, Stratis Minakakis, and Pamela Madsen. He has performed as a soloist at the Cambridge Science Festival, Jordan Hall, Boston Conservatory, MFA, Boston, and MIT. He performs woodwinds (saxophones, clarinets, flutes, oboe, bassoon) regularly in musicals, including at the American Repertory Theatre and Wheelock Family Theater.

He is currently Applied Instructor of Saxophone at Gordon College, faculty at Powers Music School and All Newton Music School, and frequently presents lecturers on woodwinds, music theory, and extended techniques to audiences young and old. As artist manager and project facilitator, David founded Abstraction Music Group in 2021 to support composers and performers. Originally from California, David holds degrees from Cal State Fullerton (Bachelors, 2013) and the New England Conservatory of Music (Dual Masters, 2016).
